Horizons is an initiative from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Affairs to support LGBTQ+ students in their transition to life at UF and in the Gainesville community. It is an in-person program tentatively scheduled for September 3-4 for the Fall 2022 semester and tentatively for January 21-22 for the Spring 2023 semester with monthly events throughout 2022-2023 for all incoming first year, transfer and international UF students who self-identify as LGBTQ+.
The initiative strives to support LGBTQ+ students in finding community, connecting them to resources on campus and in Gainesville, and engaging in activities and programs that support their identity development and contribute to their academic and personal growth.

Cultivating a sense of belonging by connecting students to others who share their identity and lived experiences, as well as the broader LGBTQ+ community on campus and in Gainesville, including LGBTQ+ student and local organizations.
Empowering our LGBTQ+ students to explore their identity in an affirming and welcoming environment and highlighting existing resources to support them in various aspects of their journey.
Equipping our students with the tools they need to be successful by introducing them to campus resources and other environmental supports that contribute to their overall academic well-being, persistence and self-efficacy.
